Meet the Author
I'm quirky, dare-devilish, anxious, and a little rambunctious. I'm a beatnik. A wanderer. I have a taste for adventure and I recognize the beauty in things, including myself. I hope to...no, I will - visit every continent and as many countries as possible before my time here is done. My favorite thing in this world is experience. I used to say it was "travel," but the more I learn about myself, the more I realize it's the experience that I crave. With that being said, experience in the form of continent hopping is my true love. I am at my best when I'm traveling and exploring, and I needed a place to capture that - ergo, Lost in Familiarity.
I love sweets (so much that it scares me), bread in the form of any kind of bread there is, live music, movies, festivals, big words, beaches, wine, and the color green. I despise mosquitoes, shorts and sweaters on the same person at the same time, and people who agree to come hang out, but then have an attitude the whole time they're with you. Who does that? Do us all a favor and just say no next time! Where was I? Oh yeah, I also like to go to games, but not actually watch them. I just go for the beer and the noise. I like an occasional cigar and the cucumber martini is my spirit animal.
Some might say that I'm the perfect mix of sassy and sweet. I wouldn't say that, because that would be bragging, but I'm something kinda like a cosmic explosion (too much?). Still others might say that I'm a psycho bitch who shifts moods more often than I change panties. But hey, you don't know how often I actually change my panties. Did I forget to mention that I can also be a little off-color when provoked? Or for no reason at all. And furthermore, nobody would say that about me and still be around to tell it. I know people. Big, scary people. LOL! I also joke - a lot. I don't know that many people, and don't let Facebook fool you...nobody has that many friends. Not real ones anyway.
I come from good stock, complete with an awesome set of parents, who continue to give me the best example of true love and respect and who taught me to never let anyone dictate my path; an amazing little sister who teaches me everyday to be thankful for my individual strengths; a brand new niece who shows me everything that's right about this world; and a cute, old pup who can barely see, but still manages to find my legs when he wants a good snuggle.
I have done some bad things. Very bad things. Although, nothing that would land me in jail. Statutes of limitation are still 7 years right? I've also done some pretty fantastic things. Things that many won't have the chance to do in their lifetime. For all of those things - good and bad - I am grateful. It's all of those moments and all of those uh-ohs and all of those lessons that make me, ME.
I once read that travel is rebellion in its purest form. For when we travel, we free ourselves of labels, willingly lose control, and welcome the unfamiliar. Well, I believe that in each unfamiliarity - we find ourselves lost in familiarity. To me, it's a state of being. It's when your surroundings are UNFAMILIAR, but it still has the strange feeling of FAMILIARITY. It's when you find yourself in a place where people don't speak the same language as you, but they gesture you to join their table for dinner. It's that moment when you're walking down a street in Lisbon and you smell cookies baking, not your mother's, but they remind you of home. It's that feeling when you're standing on a corner in the middle of Anytown, USA, and someone smiles at you when you catch their eye. It is everything and nothing at all. It is that common thread that undeniably connects everyone and everything. It is how I see life.
